The third artist we photographed for the Modern Historic 1900 -project was sculptor and proffessor Kimmo Pyykkö. Two weeks ago we visited his house in Helsinki for the shoot and had the opportunity to talk about his work.

In the 70’s he made large surrealistic aluminum sculptures while his later works are more inspired by nature. He showed us wooden reliefs and mounted birds that he uses for making molds for his sculptures.

After we had shot our images we sat for a while in his studio for some coffee and snacks. Mr. Pyykkö spoke very openly about his past and shared with us insights into his own life. He also told us about the different techniques and styles he has gone through and the length of his work. Once again it was quite fascinating to get a glimpse behind the curtains of one our great artists.

Last thursday we visited Mr. Eero Aarnio in his home in Veikkola, to take a few images for the Modern Historic 1900 -project. Eero Aarnio is a Finnish interior designer born in 1932 probably most well known for his Ball Chair designed in 1963. Now, well into his 70′s he is continuously designing new products.

We had a great time drinking coffee, eating blueberry pie and talking with Mr. Aarnio about his work and his upcoming projects. He is a very cheerful and warm person, and I think it shows in his work. His house is filled with Puppies and Dinos, two colorful, abstract and joyful plastic products designed for children. What a great artist!
