Surreal drone photography inspired by Aydın Büyüktaş

Aydın Büyüktaş is a Turkish visual artist and photographer who is known for his magnificent and surreal photographs. His works defy the laws of physics and remind us of the fascinating views of the movie Inception.

We were inspired by Aydın Büyüktaş’ photos and wanted to try bending the universe ourselves. The surrealistic effect was created by combining drone photos that are shot from different heights and angles. It was a fun little project and we might try creating more of these mindboggling photos later on.

Nature photography by Anders Portman

Our photographer Anders Portman’s workdays revolve around commissions and photoshoots but photography is also one of his favorite pastimes.

Traveling across Finland for work and holidays, Anders has seen all kinds of breath-taking landscapes. He selected a few of his impressive nature photos to share with us.

On the Road – a photography exhibition by Martin Sommerschield

Our photographer Martin Sommerschield is hosting a photography exhibition in Hima & Sali restaurant at Kaapelitehdas. The exhibition consists of photos he has taken during his travels, literally on the road.

“I have always been fascinated by life on the road. For me the empty road symbolizes freedom and the possibilities ahead but also the many exciting people you might meet along the way. My work and personal travels have brought me to interesting places and in the exhibition I present a selection of works from around the world”, Martin explains.

The exhibition is done in collaboration with PlywoodPrint.com and all the photos have been printed on Finnish birch plywood. Watch the video and view the photos to see the production process and the finished prints!

The exhibition is held in Hima & Sali restaurant from the 1st of April to the 31st of May. For more information about the location and the opening hours, visit Hima & Sali's website.

Nightsky in Kumlinge

Kumlinge is a municipality consisting of a group of small islands in Åland, an autonomous territory of Finland. Kumlinge, which is also the name of the largest island in the group, means "rocky passage." It also happens to be one of the darkest places you can find in Finland, due to the lack of large cities or street lighting nearby. We had a chance to visit Kumlinge in late December and actually had a few clear skied nights. It was a perfect chance to test out some nightsky timelapses. Aside from the multitude of stars, satellites and shooting stars, we caught a clear view of the Milkyway. To top it all off, we even managed to capture a brief view of the aurora borealis.
