The City of Helsinki commissioned us to photograph Pasila, a distinctive urban area near Helsinki’s centre. Pasila is a busy public transportation intersection and a home of 9000 people and numerous companies. The area is currently developing fast and in the future East and West Pasila will be linked together by new residential buildings and a massive building complex called Tripla.
Most of Pasila was built in the 70s and the 80s. Eastern Pasila is especially known for its harsh concrete architecture and the unique walkways that were built above the roads to make room for cars.
Pasila’s existing architecture may evoke mixed emotions but the roughness makes it interesting. We selected our favourite Pasila photos and created this graphic citylife gallery to highlight the originality of the area.
