Länsimetro, the west metro, has been one of the biggest construction projects of the decade in the Helsinki region. Helsinki’s existing metro rail line has been extended to Espoo and the eight stations of the first construction phase are almost ready for traffic.
We were commissioned to photograph some of the exciting new metro stations. The first one was the station of Tapiola which was designed by APRT Architects. The estimation is that around 20 000 passengers will use the station daily. Tapiola is also one of the cultural centres of Espoo and Kim Simonsson’s impressive sculpture on the platform reminds visitors of the area’s cultural attractions.
We photographed Tapiola metro station for APRT Architects.
