Archive for January, 2012

A while ago we did some equipment testing and snapped together our EF300mm f/4 IS USM lens with a EF 1.4x II extender to get a focal length of 420mm at a still respectable speed of f/5.6. Since we are used to mostly shooting wider angles it was an interesting opportunity to test out interesting compositions. We shot the cranes at Hietalahden ranta and even though we bumped the ISO to 1000 on the 5DMKII, the images were sharp and had good contrast. The extender creates quite a bit of distortion on wide angles but it’s nice to see the lack of any dramatic distortion in these shots, something that is of great importance while shooting architectural detail.

“Lux Helsinki brings light to the darkest time of the year”

We got around to shooting some images of the event that was held in Helsinki between the 31st of December to the 9th of January. For 9 days the city was illuminated by light installations and fire art. If you didn’t have a chance to see it for your self you can check out the images below.
